About Us
The Lunchbox is a local business situated in the heart of Chichester, serving the local community and using locally-sourced ingredients.
Ted and Patricia Anne Growns first opened The Lunchbox in Chichester on the 9th May 1977. Their first premises was in The Butter Market and on their first day of opening their takings were £9.89 plus £1.65 in Luncheon Vouchers.
After being at The Butter Market for 30 years, their lease was sadly terminated by Chichester Council and they had to find alternative premises. They initially moved to Southgate Pavilion in South Street, but after 4 years they moved to St. John’s Street.
When Ted and Pat retired they left the shop to their two daughters, Joanne and Paula and daughter-in-law Katy. But when they had to relocate for the third time to the current location in Cooper Street in Chichester in 2018, only Joanne decided to carry on with it.
I am Nicola and I started work at The Lunchbox in 2019 and wanted to purchase the shop, but then my son decided to come along so I stopped working there. A lady called Emma bought it in 2021 and had it for two years.
When it came up for sale again I saw it as my chance, although challenging at times trying to juggle the shop and my two young children. I absolutely love it and wouldn’t change it for the world. I love the customers and getting to know the regulars. High customer service is the most important factor to me (as well as serving delicious food!).
I couldn’t have done it though with the help from my late nan, Patricia Anne.
We look forward to welcoming you to our cute and crazy little shop.
